Sports Unlimited began on April 1, 1975. Jim & Shirley Edgley had taken their 3 children to Disney World on vacation in an executive motor home. When they came home, they told the children about the plan of opening a dealership.
“We are going to sell travel trailers, fifth wheels, fold outs, Harley Davidson, Suzuki motorcycles and Arctic Cat snowmobiles.”
Jim took a trip to Indiana to find an RV franchise, while driving down the road he passed a Jayco delivery truck. He turned around and chased him down for the phone number on the truck, went to a payphone and got a same day appointment. He liked what he saw and one week later the sales rep was in Alpena showing all of us how to sell a Jayco fold out.

Today, Shirley’s daughter, Doreen, and her husband, Jim, continue the Sports Unlimited legacy with unlimited loyalty.
“Our store has been through many changes over the past 50 years: gas shortages, the price of gas going over a dollar, 16.9% financing in the early 80s, Artic Cat going out of business in 1981, and a fire that completely destroyed the store in 2015. But, we stayed strong.”

Today, we are the only original family owned exclusive Jayco dealer in Northern Michigan. We carry Suzuki and Yamaha ATVs and Side-by-Sides. Our Sports Unlimited philosophy is to live by the golden rule.
